How Read Nardagani Works

Making the invisible rules of
English visible

The Problem

English is one of the most complex languages to decode. With 44 phonemes mapped to over 250 grapheme combinations, the gap between what learners hear and what they see on the page is enormous. Traditional phonics instruction asks learners to memorize abstract rules, and for millions of learners, those rules never click. Read Nardagani enables learners to hear and see the sounds.

The Nardagani Approach

Simple symbols make sound patterns visible and intuitive for learners of all ages.

Read Nardagani uses 12 simple symbols to cue phoneme-grapheme correspondences. Each color represents a specific sound pattern, making the relationship between letters and sounds visible and intuitive. Instead of memorizing rules, learners see the patterns, and decoding becomes natural.

Why It Works

The Nardagani method functions as a “decoding engine.” It aligns with The Science of Reading and strengthens the word recognition strands of Scarborough’s Reading Rope, the widely accepted model of skilled reading. By removing the decoding and cognitive overload bottleneck, learners can access the vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension skills they already carry in their oral language. It doesn’t replace comprehension instruction; it unlocks the door to it.

Alignment with the Science of Reading

The Read Nardagani Literacy Foundation delivers its Programs using the Read Nardagani app that aligns with structured literacy principles, The Science of Reading, and Scarborough’s Reading Rope. It is designed as a learning tool to assist and complement existing curriculum frameworks, not replace them.

Our approach has been endorsed by literacy researchers and is being introduced to leading national organizations in The Science of Reading movement.
